The Department of History at the College of Charleston invites applications for a visiting assistant professor with expertise in the U.S. Civil War and Reconstruction era, to begin August 16, 2026. The position is for one year. The successful candidate will teach four sections of the 100-level general education history requirement each semester. The general education classes are organized thematically around the professor’s scholarly interests, rather than as a traditional world or western civilization course. There may also be opportunities to teach upper-division undergraduate or graduate courses. All requirements for the Ph.D. in History must be completed by August 15, 2026.
